PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST

This position may be filled as a temporary promotion or temporary reassignment not to exceed one year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary promotions or temporary reassignments may be extended for a maximum of five years, and may be made permanent without further competition. If a current permanent Army employee is selected, they will be returned to the position from which they were temporarily promoted, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay. Position may be filled as a term appointment not to exceed 366 days, if the candidate is not a current Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. Although Term employees often are hired following the same competitive procedures that are used for hiring permanent employees, Term employees do not have status in the competitive service. Consequently, unless they attained status through an earlier appointment, they cannot be selected from their Term appointment for permanent career or career conditional appointments through internal merit promotion procedures. Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes:
1) Implementing the physical security plans and policies of an installation; 2) Conduct annual physical security surveys to assess the adequacy of an installation's existing physical security measures; 3) Advise and/or train personnel on the crime prevention program and security awareness compliance requirements for an organization; and 4) Establish and/or maintain the lock and key control program procedures for an installation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education Substitution:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work of the position to be filled. (NOTE:

Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semesters hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE:

Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes:
1) Implement Army Regulations pertaining to Physical Security; 2) Apply knowledge of the operation and be able to complete minor troubleshooting of the Automated Installation Access Control System; 3) Apply knowledge of the operation and be able to complete minor troubleshooting of the Intrusion Detection System; 4) Completion of the Army Physical Security course either in resident or electronically; 5) Write or update Physical Security Plans, Standard Operating Procedures, and Regulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education Substitution:
Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position to be filled. (NOTE:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
